Setting Up Tynker with Google Classroom

Edited

Google Classroom can be used to connect teachers' classes and student rosters with Tynker. When using this integration, the class and student information originates in Google Classroom and is then made available in Tynker.

For the best results, the class should be created and the student roster established in Google Classroom before connecting it to Tynker.

Before setting up the integration

As a school administrator, make sure:

  • Your school has an active Tynker subscription.

  • The teachers who will use Tynker have the appropriate Google accounts.

  • Teachers have access to the Google Classroom classes they will use with Tynker.

  • The student roster is established in Google Classroom.

  • Students have accepted their Google Classroom invitations when required.

How the integration works

The general flow is: Google Classroom → Tynker

Google Classroom provides the class and student information that Tynker uses to set up the corresponding classroom.

This means that changes made to the Google Classroom roster should be managed from Google Classroom rather than by manually maintaining duplicate rosters in Tynker.

Recommended setup

  1. Create the classes in Google Classroom.

  2. Add or invite the appropriate students in Google Classroom.

  3. Make sure students have accepted their invitations.

  4. Have the teacher connect the Google Classroom class to Tynker.

  5. Verify that the Tynker classroom and student roster match Google Classroom.

Important

Creating or managing the class directly in Tynker instead of establishing it in Google Classroom first may result in synchronization issues.

If a class or student is missing from Tynker, first verify the information in Google Classroom.
